Date: 4 May 2024 - 25 May 2024
Venue: Workshop Room, G/F, Fung Ping Shan Building, UMAG, HKU, 90 Bonham Road, Pokfulam
When thinking of Hong Kong, one inevitably pictures bustling streets and tightly packed concrete buildings. Amidst our busy urban lives, we often overlook the numerous natural landscapes that exist all around us.
Organised in conjunction with the exhibition Momentous Mountains: The Artistic, Philosophical and Cultural Engagement with Chinese Landscape Painting, this workshop aims to increase public awareness for the often- overlooked natural ecologies that are part of our urban landscape. The instructor will focus on urban natural sceneries, teaching participants how to depict the city’s natural landscapes through careful observation and simple ink painting techniques. The workshop will guide participants in rediscovering familiar scenes through various perspectives of the natural world. Participants are required to bring their own photo of ‘A Tree in the City’, which the instructor will use to assist them in interpreting and recreating an ink wash painting.
