Lingering Splendour: The Nineteenth-Century Flute brings to life the lyricism of the nineteenth-century flute repertoire. The concert opens and closes with Wagner’s and Saint-Saëns’ respective Romances, framing two Romantic masterworks of markedly contrasting character: Mendelssohn’s classically refined Sonata in F Major, and Strauss’s resplendent, impassioned Sonata in E-flat Major.
