Abstract
This lecture will discuss the status of Holocaust education in the Netherlands, exploring various aspects of the historical content and pedagogical approaches, as well as the processing and representation of the topic in museums and memorials in the Netherlands. The focus will be on two museums/memorial institutions in the Netherlands: the National Holocaust Museum in Amsterdam and Camp Westerbork National Memorial Centre.

Professor Marc van Berkel
After working as a Senior Lecturer in History at HAN University of Applied Sciences’ Education Academy since 2007, Marc van Berkel was appointed Professor at Radboud University in 2023. His PhD thesis (Erasmus University Rotterdam 2017) focuses on the representation of the Holocaust in German and Dutch history textbooks. He is a member of the Dutch delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), and Honorary Consul of the State Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau. He also was an advisor to the National Holocaust Museum in Amsterdam, which opened in March 2024.
