Abstract

Explore a variety of sentiments through virtuosic harp pieces spanning the 19th and 20th centuries. The programme is divided into two sections: Opera Frenzy delves into the enchanting world of opera, infused with love and hate, featuring three beautiful melodies from the operas Rusalka, Eugene Onegin and Cavalleria Rusticana. French Glitter presents the shimmering magic of the harp repertoire during the early 20th century, a period marked by dynamic developments in harp music, especially in France during the advent of the modern harp. In this programme, you will hear the mesmerising atmosphere created by Gabriel Pierné, the joyful exuberance of Jean-Michel Damase’s ‘Sicilienne Variee’ and a three-part emotional journey through Marcel Grandjany’s ‘Piece Symphonique’, which traverses mourning, the fury of denial and, eventually, the transcendence into hope.
