劍身為柳葉形,中間隆起成脊,兩側刃部鋒利,頂端收聚成鋒,劍把與劍身間有格,格上嵌鑲的綠松石已脫落,莖作圓形,上有三道凸起的橢圓形箍(其中一道不明顯),無劍首。
《晏子春秋》卷五:“_拘其頸,劍承其心”。是可佩帶的手持短兵,可斬可刺。
商末周初開始出現青銅短劍,其狀扁平有脊,如細長_葉,最長不超過30cm,春秋早期青銅劍都是由圓柱體的莖組成的柱脊劍,長度增大,一般在28-50cm之間,春秋末期,鐵劍開始出現。戰國是青銅劍最鼎盛時期,劍身增長達80-100cm,劍身多鎏金,嵌鑲或錯金銀加以裝飾,西漢初,鐵劍取代青銅劍,東漢末,鐵刀取代了鐵劍。
