The woodcarved ornament is inscribed with "Tenth Year of Xianfeng. Lively and invigorating, the lion situated at the center of the piece has an embroidered ball under his paw, whereas the vigorous young cubs underneath are meticulously crafted, contrasting nicely with the surrounding patterns. The Chinese word of lion is also a homonym for a senior official rank, symbolizing the promotion to senior official rank.
