Descriptions in English
Known as ‘northern celadon’ or Yaozhou ware, ceramics of this type were produced in numerous kilns in Shaanxi province, as well as in Linru and Baofeng in Henan province. They were probably produced for imperial use, although they are not listed among the ‘official kilns’ of the Song dynasty. The contrast of dark and light areas is the result of the glaze sinking into deeply carved depressions. A character at the center reads 'wu' (prosperity).

[Olive green glaze, cracked, with "wu" character in interior centre.]
